Reducing costs by implementing environmental best practice.
As Building and Civil Engineering contractors Castle Group Scotland’s environmental impacts vary across a multitude of sites. These sites are often in remote and sensitive environments where robust environmental practices are key to project delivery, meeting client expectations and reducing costs.
Demonstrating environmental management is becoming a licence to operate with the need to substantiate performance in tenders.
Beyond Green developed the company’s Environmental Management System to obtain ISO14001 accreditation, and subsequent re-accreditation without corrective actions.
By implementing pragmatic programmes, robust monitoring of targets, and inspiring on-site workshops the company has diverted (500 tonnes per year) of its waste from landfill since 2009.
Drawing on his knowledge of business systems and financial expertise, Paul integrated resource management with their stock system, and site waste management plans with their purchasing process.
He also integrated an energy management plan for the office and project logistics to achieve accreditation to the Carbon Trust Standard and identify measures to reduce their carbon intensity (CO2 per £ of turnover) by 15% since 2010, and saved £15,500 annually.
In 2012, the company received the VIBES SME Management Award, and the judges specifically noted the accurate monitoring and measurement of their economic and resource performance.
Beyond Green always provides guidance that puts our business first. And importantly we are witnessing a return on investment from the sustainable business Beyond Green has helped us implement. We value Paul’s balance and his fresh thinking allows us to respond to new business opportunities.Karen Ogilvy | Administration Director | Castle Group Scotland Limited
