Spring Newsletter – Disability Confident, Net Zero, and more!

In our spring newsletter below, we share a few highlights from our project work and our commitment to being a better business – from our B Corp membership over becoming a Disability Confident employer, we have made a lot of progress to share with you.

Disability Confident

We are now officially a Disability Confident employer! For us, this means we are making our commitment to accessibility and social inclusion more public, and holding ourselves to a higher standard. We will be updating you on our journey along the way.

At the moment, we are preparing to pilot an accessibility template designed by one of our disabled team members with selected clients; we are hoping that it will help us have better conversations about how we work together, as well as making our services more accessible and inclusive.

Race to Net Zero

The #RaceToZero has begun. We are involved in a number of great tender opportunities to help organisations in the service, food and drink, and entertainment sectors verify their carbon baseline and to develop their Net Zero roadmap tp align with science based targets.  For these tender opportunities, we’re grateful to our existing clients for their testimonials and references sharing in their words the value we bring.

There’s clearly a conscious decision that Net Zero is a moral imperative, and that credible reporting is fundamental. With our founder’s background in financial and non-financial assurance from his time at PwC; and our team’s extensive experience from over 800 carbon reduction projects, Beyond Green will be your organisation’s support crew in the Net Zero race.

Energy and Carbon Report for International Rescue Committee – UK.

Our 2021 kicked off with supporting our new client with their first Energy and Carbon Report under SECR(i), and during lockdown, too! Our collaborative approach and tools worked very well in the virtual world we are in, saving carbon. In the process, we identified energy saving opportunities and ways to streamline their processes to make future compliance easier and cost effective. We are looking forward to supporting IRC-UK with their sustainable and low carbon journey.

B Corp Month

Last month was B Corp Month; a month to celebrate our B Corp membership and the work we do to be a better business. During the month, we’ve been posting our thoughts on better business on our LinkedIn page here:

Choose Challenge – Choose Inclusiveness and Equality

Paul has shared some of his thoughts and his personal journey on choosing challenge to create a more inclusive and equal society in a blog post in March.

I founded Beyond Green, partly to align my values and ethics with the organisation I work for and lead. This blog post outlines my personal journey of aspiring to live our values, in particular fairness, compassion and honesty, in relation to gender equality.– Paul Adderley

Another successful year of Zero Waste Scotland work

It has been a full year of the renamed Zero Waste Scotland programme, the Energy Efficiency Business Support Service, which now focuses primarily on energy savings for SMEs within Scotland. Our work as advisors on this framework has led to the delivery of 91 projects, leading to carbon savings of 1,700tCO2e per year and cost savings of £660k per year. Working together with John Murray’s team at ZWS fosters great teamwork that places the SME at the heart of our delivery.

We look forward to maintaining our position on this framework and continue supporting as many organisations as we can!

Sharing Hope

“I became a Chartered Accountant with ICAEW in 2001, with the belief that accountants can make a difference to our sustainable future. As a passionate advocate for twenty years my voice was listened to by both sympathetic and dismissive ears. I am uplifted by the noticeable shift at the grass roots level with more members voicing action; and seeking how to get involved to make a positive difference.

With my voluntary role leading a working group for ICAEW Scotland we wish to draw on the insights and knowledge from its diverse membership to assess ‘How to build back better and help shape a greener, fairer, more resilient future’.

The transition required means accountants will build on competent professionals to becoming a complete professional who is a catalyst for positive change. ICAEW past-president Dr Hilary Lindsay articulates this in this brief video.”  – Paul Adderley

Now for something completely different

Our collaborators at TheSurefoot Effect were involved with an ERASMUS+ project to create an Environmental Learning story (read it here).  Its message is clear: we have one planet and collectively we need to change our relationship with it. We need to work with nature, not against it.
