Introduction
Perk is an AI-native travel and spend management platform that helps businesses automate travel bookings, expenses, invoice processing, and events, reducing manual work so teams can focus on higher-value activities.
Beginnings
It started with their IT consultant finding Beyond Green’s Director Paul Adderley on Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP) register of ESOS Lead Assessors. Perk’s ESG lead, recently in post, was tasked with ensuring the company complied with ESOS; and was delighted they came across Beyond Green. This was the company’s first experience of ESOS compliance, and they were unaware of the requirements going into the project.
Now
We quickly reassured them, explained how to engage with the Environment Agency, and set up templates for the Perk team to collate the necessary energy data before the Easter break.
With a condensed timeline the Beyond Green team drew on their experience of delivering over 10 ESOS Projects, and nearly 1000 energy assessments overall, to deliver the three key requirements for this project:
- Calculate Total Energy Consumption and Significant Energy Use
- Conduct an Energy Saving Opportunity Assessment for Perk’s UK offices, and transport activities
- Prepare the ESOS report for the CTO
Our team in Birmingham soon developed a collaborative relationship with the Workplace Experience Team Leader based at their office in Birmingham and their ESG Lead based in Barcelona. All helped by our digital expertise to smooth working together by using collaborative documents and an online whiteboard tool (Miro) which allows everyone to participate wherever they are. Our visit to the office enabled a detailed assessment of the Building Management System to identify energy savings for better heating controls and sensors, identifying savings in the use of office equipment and improved lighting controls. The quality of the opportunities was made all the better for the co-operation from the office facilities team and other specialists who assisted us during the visit. Oh, and above all, the importance of accurate and regular energy meter data to ensure usual energy consumption can be spotted ASAP.
One of the most essential aspects of an ESOS project is to obtain Board buy-in to ensure feasible opportunities are implemented. Our Lead Assessor, drawing on years of presenting complex matters to Directors with limited bandwidth could succinctly capture the outcomes from work in the context of benefits to their business, and convey practical and pragmatic approach taken.
Future
Central to how we work is collaboration to ensure we bring along all those involved on the journey to a lower carbon future. Within a few months after the completion, we hear that the Perk’s team are progressing with the implementation plans. We are already collaborating with Perk, building on the fantastic teamwork developed in Phase 3.
ESOS requires companies to submit the final progress to their action plans in December 2026, and we will continue to support Perk as it works through its implementation plan.
This is what Kay Basran, Workplace Experience Team Leader at Perk, had to say about our work together:
“I wanted to share some positive feedback on the recent ESG audit conducted by Paul and Evelin. Their work was thorough and highly informative, providing clear and actionable insights throughout the process. What stood out in particular was their communication — they kept us updated consistently throughout the day, with regular email updates that kept the process transparent and easy to follow. Their professionalism, responsiveness, and attention to detail made the entire audit smooth and efficient. I’d have no hesitation recommending them as a third-party partner for future ESG audit work.”
