Modelling solar PV investment scenarios.
Provide an analysis of investment opportunities for Solar PV systems across the council’s estate, modelling different scenarios for cost savings, income, payback, and carbon reduction.
Assisted a local authority to assess the feasibility of installing solar PV systems at over 95 properties of varying sizes (10kW to 250kW) and across various property categories including housing, offices, leisure facilities and schools. We provided a bespoke financial model which reflected the latest Feed-in-Tariff regulations by considering the financial impacts of multiple installations, Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) grades, and financial savings from the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) scheme. The model was also used to provide a sensitivity analysis to assess potential changes in tariffs, as well as benchmarking system costs against industry standards and our knowledge of recently installed systems.
We assessed the potential installations, critiqued information provided by an installer, and reviewed the costs against industry benchmarks, energy predictions and sizing of systems. The analysis generated from our robust technical and financial modelling tools provided the council with a better understanding of the benefits and risks of the investment, as well as prioritising the properties for best value returns. We are providing on-going assistance with the tendering process and evaluation.
From our work, the council are now proceeding with the installation of the most economical systems.
