Grange Door Systems Sustainability Strategy

Grange Door System Sustainability Journey

Cost and carbon savings through business strategy and EMS.

Project aims

Achieve cost and carbon emission savings through business strategy and environmental management systems.

Our support

Grange Door Systems (GDS) first approached Beyond Green in 2008, when they needed advice on their sustainability strategy. We guided them through the implementation of an ISO 14001 certified environmental management system and obtaining a Carbon Trust Standard certificate.

In 2012 we helped GDS to integrate an ISO 50001 energy management system to enhance their existing systems. This included installing a 50kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system.

We currently support the company with their business management system, using cloud based technology to optimise environmental management, and with the transition to ISO 14001:2015.

Impact

GDS have implemented a range of sustainable business practices. Mindful of the circular economy, they significantly increased waste recycling from 64% to 95% (March 2016) by looking at door repairs before replacement. They have reduced fuel consumption by introducing a more efficient fleet, FuelGood driver training and an efficient driver incentive programme. They have also improved heating and lighting.

Outcomes

The combined changes have reduced the company’s annual carbon emissions by 56.6% or 45.4 tCO2e, reduced their energy consumption by 56% and made total annual savings of £28,000 (including £15,000 from solar PV). As a result, GDS achieved 93% for its 2015 Carbon Trust Standard certification – the highest score by sector/size.
