Vegware is a rapidly expanding business manufacturing 100% compostable catering products. With competitors now being certified to ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management systems (QEMS), Vegware needed to enhance its competitive advantage.

Beyond Green suggested using Google Docs as a platform for developing and deploying the QEMS. This would allow forms and records used by the team in the live environment to connect to the core system procedures under development.

When implementing a QEMS within a growing, dynamic business, it is critical that the development process is adaptable to the changing needs of the live environment.

The document sharing system is ideal, with permission controls in place and where revision history is tracked. There is less focus on the physical location and no need for a rigid architecture. Instead, a framework provides a clear structure of how the components of the system work together.

The approach is reducing development time, increasing user participation in the development process and ensuring knowledge is being embedded. This will save costs, increase efficiency, smoothness and longevity of the system.
